Viking Student Center Groundbreaking

Viking Student Center Groundbreaking

The Mass of the Holy Spirit concluded with the blessing of the Groundbreaking by Cardinal Timothy Dolan. The ceremony was originally planned on taking place outside, but it occurred inside the cafeteria due to the weather. However, all the students as well as faculty members were there to witness this special moment.

In his blog, Cardinal Timothy Dolan said, “And to bless the site for their planned expansion after Mass was a further sign of confidence in
the future of Catholic education.”

The Viking Student Center is an expansion of the school that intended to be open for students next fall.

The student body can enjoy this new building and all that it offers such as a new fitness center and a lounge area. As the blessing took place, applause filled the room. The student body was cheerful and became excited for this new project to begin. What other way to start this construction than by having the site blessed?

Stadium-seating bleachers will be added behind the benches and scorer’s table. That addition will be part of the two-level Viking Student Center — a nearly 18,000-square foot building that will also feature a state-of-the-art weight room; a cheerleading and dance room; three locker rooms for student-athletes; and an afterschool cafe.

The existing weight room will become a wrestling room, and the existing second gym will be made game-ready for regulation basketball games.
